Daffodils, Onions & Pie

I as so excited yesterday when I went out to chore in the morning. There - right by the memorial in the garden - were teeny little daffodils. At least I think they're daffodils - I'm not a flower name guru. They look like daffodils but are very tiny. Tiny but pretty. My first flowers of the spring.

The japonica bush is getting ready to burst as is the crabapple tree in the front yard.

And the Walking Onions are showing off their lucious green. I've pretty well let them
take over the strawberry bed. We never could get strawberries to grow. I'm much
better at flowers while Pep grows the veggies. We'll be putting in the lettuce,
radishes and snow peas this weekend.

And soon we'll have a fun Cottage Garden. I just love this time of year. The raised
beds are turned and ready for planting. And I must admit planting (and then picking)
are my favorite parts of gardening. Kind of like picking out the fabric for the quilt. :)

If you're on our mailing list (and it's easy to get on) you'll soon get an email about the
new Needleroll kit. If you order the kit now you'll get 15% off on all the things you
need to applique with your needleroll- thread, needles, thimbles. Etc. If you haven't
signed up yet you can email Tori at janpatekquilts@yahoo.com to order it and get your
15% off for the next week.

And people, did you know that March 14th is National Pie Day. Pie as in 3.14 as in
pi-r-squared as in math. Now I remember pi-r-squared from school but had no
idea March 14th was Pie Day. Zoie loves Pie - she wants to have a pie birthday
party with pie throwing (at faces even). She said the party should probably be
outside :). Anyway, Pep knew it was Pie Day and baked her his favorite Coconut
pie yesterday. It is really yummy.
The recipe came from Mary McGuire from North Carolina.
Here's the recipe.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups milk

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup shredded coconut

2 eggs, beaten

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 (9 inch) unbaked pastry shell

Directions

1. In a large bowl, place milk, sugar, coconut, eggs, flour, butter and vanilla;

stir until combined. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50

minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool to room

temperature. Refrigerate leftovers

Well - it is March, after all

And March is when Spring Comes.

This is our newest Mini Quilt and I called it Softly Comes the Spring. I really like it. I am soooo over cold, wet muddy weather. And I know April showers bring May flowers but we seem to be a month or two ahead of everything this year. We had lots of February showers so I'm ready for some March flowers even if they're quilted flowers.
We're having a combination Leap Year - Spring Celebration sale yesterday and today. Buy 2, get 1 free. 2 patterns, 2 books, 2 kits. Buy 2, get 1 free (of equal or lesser value). So I hurried to get this in the store today for those of you that follow the blog. Our store doesn't do BOGO yet so you'll have to buy 2 and write the one you want free in the comments section. And it's so pretty today that I decided to extend the sale another day so the sale will be through Friday. If for some reason the store gets a glitch email Tori at janpatekquilts@yahoo.com or call 816-632-7632 and leave your order on the answering machine until midnight Friday.
Happy quilting.
